User-defined tabular mapping

Custom Data Playground

Load an unfamiliar CSV, TXT, TSV, XLSX, or XLS file, inspect the parsed table, and preview a graph before treating the file as a reusable template.

Supported formats

.csv, .txt, .tsv, .xlsx, .xls

Available analysis features

  • Table Preview

Inspect parsed CSV, TXT, TSV, XLSX, or XLS rows, review detected numeric columns, and preview the first X/Y graph before deciding how to map the file.

Custom Data shows readable rows and columns first. It does not treat the file as a validated scientific measurement until a domain adapter verifies the required fields.

What this tool can review

  • Tabular source preview

Read CSV/TXT/TSV tables and the first readable sheet from XLSX/XLS workbooks, then show parsed rows, columns, row count, column count, and numeric-column candidates.

  • Default X/Y graph preview

Select the first detected numeric X/Y pair for an initial graph so the user can see whether the file structure is usable.

  • Mapping workflow scaffold

Map the header row, data rows and column roles in the raw-table editor, then keep the mapping as a browser preset or, signed in, as a saved format in your own library.

  • Template-first safety boundary

Treat custom templates as file-shape mappings, not as validated scientific parsers, until a domain adapter checks all required inputs.

Typical use cases

  • Inspect unsupported tabular measurement files before choosing a scientific analysis tab.
  • Preview which rows and columns the app can read from a low-confidence upload.
  • Prepare reusable X/Y mapping templates for recurring equipment-specific exports.
  • Avoid silently forcing unknown files into IV, EQE, XPS, UPS, or other domain workflows.

FAQ

Is Custom Data a replacement for the scientific analysis tabs?

No. Custom Data is a safe preview and mapping area for unfamiliar tables. Domain-specific calculations still require a validated analysis adapter.

Can this save a reusable template?

Yes, for signed-in users. In the raw-table editor, "Save to the server as a format" stores the mapping only (header and data rows, column roles, units and graph settings), never the file or its values. Only you can see your formats; the next file with the same headers gets the format automatically, and "My format library" lists, renames and removes them (removed formats are deleted for good after 30 days). Browser presets are stored per account in this browser.

Where do I make a format for an analysis tab?

Here. When an analysis tab does not recognise a file, when you review an AI format proposal, or when you edit a saved format, the file opens in this raw-table editor with that analysis as its target. Pick the rows and columns, check the required quantities, then press "Register for <analysis>": the analysis tab checks and registers the format as before.

How are my files handled?

Files uploaded to this analysis tool are processed in the current browser session for graph conversion and analysis. The tool does not send files outside or save them without user permission.

Supported workflow

  • Graph Conversion currently previews CSV/TXT/TSV text tables and the first readable sheet from XLSX/XLS workbooks.
  • The source preview shows parsed rows, columns, numeric-column candidates, and a default X/Y graph preview.
  • Mappings are kept as browser presets or, signed in, as saved formats that hold the mapping only (no file content); fitting is not part of Custom Data.
  • Custom Data mappings do not become scientific IV, EQE, XPS, UPS, or other domain results until a domain adapter validates the required inputs.
